The Campus do Mar ISC’16 is the second science conference organized by the International Campus of Excellence – Campus do Mar. This 2-days event provides a forum for presenting and discussing new research developments in marine science, technology and management. The theme of the conference, ”Oceans: Future sustainability challenges”, reflects the growing understanding of the importance of ocean sustainability in crucial areas for human wellbeing, namely in the environmental, economic and social dimensions.

Toward this common goal for sustainably of our oceans the University of Tras-os-Montes and Alto Douro is glad to be the host of Campus do Mar International Science Conference 2016. UTAD and the beautiful Douro region, a UNESCO World Heritage site, welcome you and await your visit in the 17th and 18th of November 2016.

The CdM ISC’16 is also a prime opportunity for the PhD programme DO*MAR students and other young researchers to present their research achievements, discuss them with senior peers, and submit them to international indexed journals.

The CdM ISC’16 is organized according to the four main problem-driven research areas of the Campus do Mar:

  • Ocean Observation and Global Change (the physical, biological, chemical and geological oceanographic processes underpinning biogeochemical cycles as they impact trophic webs and biodiversity; observing networks);
  • Sustainable Use of Marine Resources (focusing use, assessment, transformation and valorisation of biological resources, including aquaculture);
