The Spanish Agency of Food Safety and Nutrition (AESAN) is an organization assigned to the Ministry of Health and Consumption, created in 2001 to guarantee safe and healthy food, foster information, education and promotion of health within the scope of nutrition and, specially, prevent obesity. The European Laboratory of Marine Biotoxines is located in the city of Vigo, assigned to the Spanish Agency of Food Safety and Nutrition. Its mission is to coordinate the European and national networks of laboratories in the identification of toxins and its control.
